IU Reveals She Suffered from Skeeter Syndrome: “My Skin Swells and Becomes Infected”

On December 19, a video was posted on the YouTube channel Yoo In Radio, featuring IU as a guest.
During the episode, IU explained, “When I get bitten by mosquitoes, it causes a reaction. I get a lump, like the old man with a boil.”
She continued, “It gets so bad that I have to take antibiotics because it gets infected and painful. It’s like a mosquito allergy.”

When DJ Yoo In-na mentioned that a quick search revealed it’s called Skeeter Syndrome, IU confirmed, saying, “That’s right. The area where I’m bitten swells up severely like an edema, and blisters form.”
IU also shared, “Mosquitoes always bite my face, and it leaves scars. The areas I was bitten as a child still have dead skin, and some spots are numb to the touch.” This confession brought sympathy from listeners.
She added, “I hate mosquitoes even more than cockroaches because of this.”
Meanwhile, IU is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix series “When Life Gives You Tangerines” in 2025 and is also scheduled to star in MBC’s new drama “21st Century Grand Lady.”
